ABSTRACT: In the pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) the child and the family suffer due to the child's health problem, the unscheduled changes in the routine, characteristics of the sector and some implemented therapies that are invasive, needing humanized care from the nursing team. The study is relevant when addressing a topic relevant to the sector's routine and aims to seek scientific evidence on the role of the nursing team in supporting the family of the child admitted to the pediatric ICU. This is a literature review with a qualitative approach, where 18 publications indexed in the databases Nursing Database (BDENF) and Latin American and Caribbean Health Science Literature (LILACS) were included, analyzed descriptively, in six analytical steps. The nursing team should seek to welcome, listen, communicate, assist, teach, include, and provide other forms of assistance to the family so that it can conduct the child's hospitalization process in the best possible way. Therefore, family-centered nursing care developed by the nursing team plays an important role in coping with the child's hospitalization situation in the pediatric ICU.
